     FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS

All of my life I've had deep, tender feelings of affection and
solicitude toward animals. There have always been cats
jumping into my lap to be patted or dogs pawing at my feet
 to go for walks.

I known the amusement of raising kittens, the rewards &
comforts of adopting stray cats, the relaxation of grooming
a pony, the nibbling of sharp little puppy teeth on my fingers
and the joyful excitement of dogs welcoming me home.

I also know the agony of sudden accidents, the worry over
sick animals, the hurt and sadness of long final good-byes
and the loneliness of grieving for a faithful 4-legged friend.

But, in every circumstance, what I experience, remember
and cherish the most is their overwhelming devotion and
unconditional love for me.

"I dipped the long handled brush into the
wet oil paints and it became my magic wand."
                                                                                                                                     -- J. P. Gaudette

Oil Painting by Boston Artist, Maxwell
When I was growing up, this seascape and two other original paintings hung in my grandparents'
living room. Even as a young child, I recognized that these pictures were "different" compared
to the framed prints and calendar pictures that hung in my own home and those of my friends.
These paintings emitted emotions. They transcended the viewer back to a moment in time..

It was this exposure and appreciation that influenced me to become an artist and a collector
of art. It is difficult to convey the feeling of owning an original oil painting. In a small way,
it's similar to trying to describe my love of pets to someone who's never had one.

Because of my strong predilection of art & fervent love of animals, I can identify with and
appreciate people who want their favorite pets immortalized on canvas. As an artist, it is a
gratifying experience to paint portraits that perpetuate pets' love & adoration for their
devoted mistresses & masters.

an artist must paint,
a poet must write,
if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.
What a man can be, he must be."
